Protein, Muscle Mass, and Lyme Disease Recovery

In my recent book, The Lyme Disease 30-Day Meal Plan, I mentioned that in my clinical practice, I’ve found most of my clients with Lyme disease do best including some sort of animal protein in their diets. While I attribute much of this benefit to the unique micronutrients found in animal proteins, including heme iron and vitamin B12, another reason animal proteins are so healing in Lyme disease is due to their beneficial effects on muscle mass maintenance. Read on to learn why maintaining and building muscle mass is essential for optimizing immunity and Lyme disease recovery, and why animal proteins are the best dietary proteins for achieving optimal muscle protein synthesis.

An Ancestral Health Perspective on Mold Illness

Recently, I came across a scientific article written from an ancestral health perspective that piqued my interest, and that I thought might interest my readers who have dealt with mold illness as well. The article, published in Frontiers in Immunology and titled An Evolutionary-Based Framework for Analyzing Mold and Dampness-Associated Symptoms in DMHS, discusses why exposure to harmful environmental molds, such as those that might be encountered in a water-damaged home, causes illness from an ancestral health perspective. I’ll then go on to explain why I believe that an ancestral health framework is the ideal approach for treating mold illness.

An Ancestral Approach to Healing from Chronic Disease

In my own journey of recovery from chronic Lyme disease and mold illness, I have taken an ancestral approach to healing that I feel is a sustainable way to not only regain health but build optimal long-term wellbeing. In this post, I want to outline the seven principles upon which I have created my “ancestral healing approach to healing chronic illness.” None of these principles works in isolation; they work synergistically. In my experience, a lifestyle developed around these principles has incredible healing power.

How To Optimize Your Circadian Rhythms To Promote Healing From Chronic Illness

Our ancestors evolved in an environment in which life was governed by the earth’s natural rhythms, including the cycles of light and dark that characterize day and night. The interaction between our biology and the earth’s light cycles led us to develop a unique system within our bodies, the circadian system. Disruption of the circadian system predisposes us to issues such as elevated stress hormones, lowered immunity intestinal dysbiosis, and impaired brain function. Over time, health issues such as these may contribute to the development of chronic illnesses. In my own journey of recovery from Lyme disease and mold illness, repairing my disrupted circadian rhythm has helped me make significant improvements in my health. Read on to learn six simple strategies for optimizing your circadian rhythms.
